My Story

Hi, I’m Caitlyn and I am a passionate, very energetic person with a great love of Scotland. It has been quite the journey to becoming who I am today. Let me tell you a bit about that.

I grew up in Perth with had a pretty typical life: school, work, time with friends and family. The one thing that made me feel different was my love of music. To be honest, I am not exactly sure where it started. I just know that I loved it from a very young age. I started off by taking piano lessons and I did really well in that and got some AMEB exams done but I stopped eventually. That was when I took on singing lessons. Through some trial and error, I found an amazing teacher who I stayed with for a long time. I still help her with her concerts to this day even after leaving so long ago now.

For much of my teenage life, I was an event singer and felt very privileged to have had the chance to sing at many people’s weddings. I also did some busking over at Fremantle Market and raised funds for Cancer Council.

In 2019, I moved over to Sydney to study songwriting for 3 years. That was the original plan but COVID got in the way of that. I lived in Sydney for 14 months, and then got stuck in Queensland with no way back into Sydney. I moved back to Perth, living out my suitcase for 3 months before getting all my belongings back. I continued studying online until the end of the year. One aspect I enjoyed about these studies was the community and the encouragement of collaboration.

I took 2 years to decide what my next move was and eventually got to the conclusion that I wanted to study composition, and write for film and TV. The first step I took was getting back into the music realm by completing my Grade 4 AMEB Singing for Leisure exams in 2022. I gained back my confidence and in the middle of that year, I applied to go to WAAPA.

When I started studying at WAAPA, my life changed completely. It was a true sign that this was my purpose in life ,and that I was at the right place to get to my goals. I learnt so much in my first year. I had no prior experience of composition besides performing and writing songs. There was a lot to learn but I enjoyed the process.

Now I am in my degree for music composition and have found exactly what I am aiming for.  So if you have read this far, thank you. Please stay along for the journey has just started. Lots of good things are on the way…
